A daily, encouraging prayer about life God’s way
Nine out of ten Americans say they pray regularly, yet all see a need to pray better, to understand prayer more, and to connect with God in a more meaningful way. We see prayer as more than clicking “send” on a text or email. God does, too. We want closeness and understanding.
If you have ever prayed about the lump that doctors discovered or the bully who is threatening your 9-year-old, you know why we pray. We pray because we don’t have total control in this life. We turn to the one who can help with that. To God.
But will he answer in a way that we want? That we like? And when he doesn’t, what does that mean? Or when he does, and we get lost in the gift instead of the Giver, will he forgive?
Jesus teaches us that prayer is more about the relationship between two parties than about the transaction between them. Like a father who gives only what is good to his children, God knows best. Like a friend who badgers a friend who insists they are busy, Jesus tells us that we can (should) keep praying and praying and praying (Luke 11:1-13). God hears. And God acts. Most importantly, he acts in grace and love for sinners who deserve much less.
The better we know and believe in God, the better we understand prayer. The Daily Prayer intends to express everyday concerns, questions, and needs among God’s ever-gracious truth. Each prayer is based on a Bible verse. With a bonus “tweet” at the end.
Enjoy these daily moments in the presence of God. May they bring you closer to him.
